ORIGINS OF THE NAME "PREEN"

PREEN is probably a locative surname derived from the village of Church Preen in Shropshire. In the fifteenth century "Johannes de Preene" was found in the neighbouring village of Langley in several deeds now stored in Shropshire Archives. The Preene family who appear in Hope Bowdler from the early sixteenth century probably acquired their name in the same way. More detail of the history of the Preen family may be seen on their website www.Preenfamily.org
